Coral Gables had a 17% decrease in traffic accidents in 2018 (Source: Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles). In real numbers, accidents dropped from 1,281 in 2017 to 1,062 in 2018 or a reduction of 219 traffic accidents year over year.
Total traffic injuries also fell in 2018 compared to 2017. There were 662 traffic injuries reported in 2017 versus 498 in 2018. That’s a decrease of 25%!
Unfortunately there were two fatalities in 2018 compared to none in 2017.
Pedestrian crashes are scary, but they did slip to 26 in 2018 compared to 27 in 2017. Fortunately, there were no fatal pedestrian crashes in Coral Gables in 2018.
Coral Gables did have one more bike crash in 2018 (30) compared to 2017 (29). Again, none of these accidents were fatal.
